Make Your Character Talk — FacadeThemes

Make your character talk

Type what it should say and pick a voice. Get it back as an audio file, or as a video with your character's mouth moving in time — props, masks, puppets, artwork, anything with a face.

From $4 — length is the only thing that changes the price.

See and hear it before you do anything

Both of these were made by describing a voice in a sentence — no recording, no actor, no picking from a list of names.

“An ancient cackling witch”
“A warm booming old Santa Claus”
Monsters, villains, witches, Santa, cartoon characters, narrators — browse hundreds, or describe your own and pick from three. Listening is always free.

And this is what comes back
Talking and moving
Mouth only
Same character, same voice, same words — the only difference is how much the character moves. Both cost the same; length is what sets the price.
Talking video
Your character speaking, on screen. The voice file is included. For projecting onto a wall, a garage or a window.
Up to 15 seconds $8
Up to 30 seconds $15
Up to 60 seconds $25
Voice only
Just the audio, as an MP3. No picture needed, ready in seconds. For props, animatronics, speakers or an FM transmitter.
Up to 15 seconds $4
Up to 30 seconds $6
Up to 60 seconds $9

What makes a good picture to animate? (click to hide)
Works well
  • A face looking straight at the camera — this matters more than anything else here
  • The mouth clearly visible
  • The whole head in frame, nothing cut off
  • Even lighting, no heavy shadow across the face
  • Monsters, masks, puppets, statues, drawings, cartoons — the face doesn't have to be human
  • Someone in a full mask or prosthetics, where no real face shows
  • The biggest version of the picture you have
Won't work
  • A recognizable real person — including yourself, and including in costume or face paint if the face still shows (animating a face makes it appear to say words the person never said, and an uploaded photo gives us no way to confirm we have their permission)
  • Characters from films, games or TV
  • A mouth that's covered, wrapped or hidden
  • A head seen from the side or from behind
  • More than one face in the picture
Facing the camera is the single biggest thing. A character looking straight out gives the best result by a distance. A slight turn is usually fine — a head in full side profile is not, because half the mouth isn't there to animate.
The face doesn't need to fill the frame. A character with wings, a body or a background all around it works fine — don't crop in. Cropping usually makes things worse, because it throws away detail.
Size matters more than you'd think. We can't add detail that isn't in your picture — a small image rendered at 4K just looks like a blurry small image. Around 1280 pixels wide or more gives a clean 1080p.

2What it says

Direct the voice:Hide the explanations
Press one to drop it where your cursor is. Tags aren't spoken — they tell the voice how to perform. Pauses make the clip longer, and length is what sets the price.
Put a tag right before the words it should change.
[pause] A short beat, about half a second.
[long pause] A longer beat, about a second.
[slowly] Slows the next sentence or two, then eases back to normal.
[whispers] Whispers the sentence it's in front of, then back to full voice.
[shouting] A strained, forceful shout for the next sentence — same volume, harsher voice.
[angry] Harder and faster for the next sentence or two.
[laughs] A laugh, about a second and a half, right where you put it.
[sighs] A weary breath out, about a second.
Want it louder? End the line with an exclamation mark — the voice raises it on its own; [shouting] changes how it's said, not how loud. Every take performs tags a little differently, so if the timing isn't right, press Hear my words again.
Write your script in this language — we don't translate it.
5 of 5 takes left
Press play on any voice to hear its sample — that's free, as many as you like. Press Hear my words to hear your script in the chosen voice and get the exact length and price. You'll need to do this before you can check out — the real length is what sets the price, and the take you hear is the one that gets made. Settle your wording first: you get 5 takes.
More movement looks better but tugs harder on the lip sync. If you're unsure, Moving is the safe one.
